The historical development and present state‐of‐the‐art of mechanized information retrieval systems

Charles P. Bourne

American Documentation, 1961, vol. 12, issue 2, 108-110

Abstract: The last ten years of equipment development and the application of mechanization techniques are reviewed for each of several functionally separate approaches, such as punched‐card systems, computer systems, and magnetic media systems. Comments are made on the progress to date and the degree of activity to be expected during the next few years for each of these approaches.
