Computer requirements for inverted coordinate indexes
John C. Costello
American Documentation, 1962, vol. 13, issue 4, 414-419
Abstract:
The use of computers for processing coordinate indexes creates a number of operational limitations and constraints which very realistically can reduce or eliminate the obvious advantages. The pros and cons are presented in such a way that they may be applied as guides by those who are about to “mechanize.” The discussion is limited to principles which may be applied to computers in general, and no specific types of computers are considered.
