Maxterm‐miniterm: An alpha numeric notation for significant document storage

H. George Feichtinger

American Documentation, 1963, vol. 14, issue 1, 35-38

Abstract: While inverted indexing systems have provided new capabilities in information searching and retrieval, the use of nonsignificant or accession index notation and document storage has also imposed various fundamental restraints on the basic user‐collection relationship. The purpose of this paper is to outline an indexing notation approach which can modify these constraints and still retain the search simplicity and effectiveness of inverted indexing. This concept has been designated as Maxterm‐Miniterm.
