American Documentation, 1965, vol. 16, issue 4, 291-298
Abstract:
The field of linguistics is considered of importance to the information sciences. In the author's opinion, linguistic contributions have so far been of significance only in the field of machine translation. A critical survey of different approaches to linguistics is therefore given from the standpoint of their usefulness to machine translation. In conclusion, some comments about the relevance of linguistics to other areas of information processing are given.
