An operating model of a national information system

J. L. Ebersole

American Documentation, 1966, vol. 17, issue 1, 33-40

Abstract: The eventual configuration of any National Information System will require close coordination between the many existing indexing‐abstracting services. Reduction of the overlap among these services is one of the important objectives of a national system. North American Aviation, Incorporated, has developed and implemented a system which solves some of the problems of linking services or networks together so as to combine maximum scope of information retrieval with minimum indexing and abstracting effort. The techniques used in this system are discussed and some proposals are presented showing how these systems techniques can be combined with other proposed methods for use in a National Information System.
