Daniel G. Bobrow, R. Y. Kain, Bertram Raphael and J. C. R. Licklider

American Documentation, 1966, vol. 17, issue 4, 186-189

Abstract: Symbiont is a computer‐and‐program system for use in research on computer‐aided study. It stores, retrieves, and displays documents and parts of documents. It “semi‐automates” the taking of verbatim notes. It facilitates the manipulation and intercomparison of graphs. And it conducts searches for passages of text that contain specified words or phrases. Experience with Symbiont and plans for its improvement are described.
