Unanswered science and technology reference questions

G. Jahoda and Mary Culnan

American Documentation, 1968, vol. 19, issue 1, 95-100

Abstract: Twenty‐six science and technology and chemistry libraries kept a record of unanswered science and technology reference questions received during a 1‐month period. The 47 questions collected are listed and reasons why they were not answered are given. Unanswered questions and types of questions that are difficult or impossible to answer were collected to determine what improvements in the science and technology bibliographic apparatus appear desirable. In view of the small number of unanswered questions collected in this study, other techniques for determining desirable improvements in the bibliographic apparatus are suggested.
