Abstract:
A review is given of specialized requirements needed for the development of a controlled vocabulary for a decentralized information network composed of 18 subject‐oriented clearing houses in the field of education. The major elements of the review include initial development stages, appointment of an advisory group for terminology development, coordination requirements, and lexicographic procedures. Training and coordination related to thesaurus development in a decentralized information network are discussed. A computerized method for developing descriptor group displays is examined and illustrated.
