Abstract: In an earlier paper by the author, it was shown how the rapid intersectoral reallocation of labor induced by the fast growth of industry could, under certain circumstances, explain much of the observed disparities in the aggregate productivity growth of the advanced countries over the period 1951-73. This paper extends the analysis to determine to what extent this process can explain, under two different sets of assumptions, the post-1973 productivity growth slowdown.
