Supply and Demand for Medical Care: Or, Is the Health Care Market Perverse?

Abstract: The argument that health market behaviour is idiosyncratic is reviewed and evidence concerning ‘Supplier Induced Demand’ is presented. The theoretical basis and implications of this pivotal hypothesis are discussed.
