SINGLE SKY AND FREE MARKET

Peter Brooker

Economic Affairs, 2003, vol. 23, issue 2, 45-51

Abstract: A description is given of the new ‘Single Sky’ for European Air Traffic Control provision. Its practical consequences in terms of free markets are then explored. The Single Sky can be judged as representing the best consensus available ‐ the product of political decisions rather than economic analyses. Will the Single Sky offer sufficient incentive for providers to rationalise and co‐operate? Indeed, will providers want to take up such challenges?
