MARKET COMPETITION, COMMUNITY RATING, RISK EQUALISATION AND EFFICIENCY IN HEALTH INSURANCE – A CASE STUDY

Abstract: Risk equalisation payments threatened to undermine competition in the Irish health insurance sector, which is already dominated by a state‐owned provider with special access to policy‐makers. The Supreme Court's decision against such payments is therefore to be welcomed.
