GATT, Dispute Settlement and Cooperation: A Note

Shannon Mitchell

Economics and Politics, 1997, vol. 9, issue 1, 87-93

Abstract: Kovenock and Thursby's 1992 paper in this journal argued that a country's sense of international obligation would supplement GATT's dispute settlement procedures in enforcing the Agreement. In this note I argue that international obligation plays a necessary, not just a supplementary, role in enforcing GATT or its successor, the WTO.
