The Real Federal Budget Imbalance

Abstract:
Using the link between nominal budget imbalances and changes in the public debt, this paper discusses the rationale and provides estimates of the real Federal budget imbalance which, over the past decade, was in surplus more often than indicated by actual outcomes.
