Abstract:
This study examines the determinants of whether judges of the County Court of Victoria publish their judgements. Methodologically, it improves on existing US studies because it uses data on all published judgements over a decade and it exploits the panel properties of the data. The results suggest that there is a nonlinear relationship between ageing and the number of judgements published with productivity peaking at age 61; and judges who are adjunct professors, judges who manage more lists and judges who hear cases in the work cover list publish more judgements.
