Introduction to domestic violence, abuse, and coercive control for counselors: An evaluation of the impact of training

Abstract: In the context of a global pandemic which has witnessed a significant increase in domestic violence, and therefore has also increased the demand for support provision; this article is reporting on the impact of a domestic violence, abuse and coercive control training targeted at counselors. This nonexperimental pre/post/follow‐up comparison provides evidence for the capacity of training programs to equip counselors with the knowledge and skills to increase awareness and work effectively with clients experiencing domestic violence and their families. Organizational and personal characteristics support the work of practitioners in this field; however, challenges identified still need to be addressed.
