The Scientists' View of Statistics—A Neglected Area
Glen McPherson
Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series A, 1989, vol. 152, issue 2, 221-240
Abstract:
Scientists who wish to use statistics as a tool in their research require a logical and consistent foundation for statistics. That foundation is shown to be different from the mathematical basis required by statisticians. The complex and challenging task of developing statistics from the perspective of the scientific user is discussed. Problems which demand more detailed attention from the statistical community are highlighted.
