Applications of Statistics to Aircraft Project Evaluation

R. A. Harvey

Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series C, 1967, vol. 16, issue 1, 1-12

Abstract: The functions of an aircraft project office and of a project evaluation group are briefly described. Some statistical elements are shown to be present in the basic processes of project design, often regarded as being deterministic. Project evaluation introduces further statistical ideas both as regards the environment in which a project is assessed and in the prediction of the necessary input data. Areas of application include confidence levels of performance estimates and studies arising from the concept of effectiveness, examples of which are given.
