A Simple Graphical Test of Association for Large Samples

Abstract:
A simple graphical procedure for testing association between two random variables is given. The procedure involves counting the points of the scatter diagram that fall in four specified regions. It is shown that in the case of a bivariate normal distribution the proposed test is a substantial improvement over the medial test. The test, as expected, compares unfavourably with Fisher's transformation.
