Correlation or Regression: Bias or Precision
W. G. Warren
Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series C, 1971, vol. 20, issue 2, 148-164
Abstract:
A quantitative study is made of the bias in the usual estimate of the linear correlation coefficient and of the relative efficiency of the estimated regression, when a certain type of selective sampling is employed. A good compromise seems difficult to obtain and it is the author's thesis that the simultaneous presentation of regression equations and correlation coefficients is, in a sense, contradictory.
