Obtaining Samples of Drivers for Surveys

D. Sheppard

Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series C, 1972, vol. 21, issue 2, 131-135

Abstract: The Transport and Road Research Laboratory is becoming increasingly involved in studies among drivers and it is important to be sure that those who are included are representative. Samples of drivers of all kinds may be required, or of specific groups and this paper discusses some problems of definition. Sampling will usually be from driving licence records or from the electoral roll, used as a basis for selecting households. The relative advantages of various sampling frames are discussed, with some examples.
