System Reliability Assessment from its Components

T. S. O'Neill

Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series C, 1972, vol. 21, issue 3, 297-320

Abstract: Design, development and procurement programmes often require assessment of System reliabilities at a time when few or no systems are available for test. In these circumstances estimates based on sub‐system data may be sought. This paper examines some methods of estimating lower confidence limits on system reliability for serial systems, based on sub‐system test data and compares their performance in some cases of interest using Monte Carlo simulation.
