The Effect of Ethical Design Considerations on Statistical Analysis

D. V. Lindley

Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series C, 1975, vol. 24, issue 2, 218-228

Abstract: An optimal experimental design may require a patient to be given a treatment which the doctor does not consider best for the patient. In this paper we show how a valid statistical analysis can sometimes be performed even when ethical considerations override those of statistical efficiency. The loss in efficiency is calculated.
