Abstract:
The problem of estimating the guarantee time of a two‐parameter exponential distribution is considered. The number of observations needed, such that an estimator satisfies a specification, is determined. When the failure rate is unknown, a two‐stage estimation procedure similar to Stein's (1945) procedure, is considered. A method for choosing the first‐stage sample is given. The problem of estimating the difference between two guarantee times is also considered.
