Abstract:
Spearman's footrule D is the sum of the absolute values of the difference between the ranks in two rankings of n objects. For the case of equally likely permutations, tables of the exact distribution of D are given for 2 ≤ n ≤ 10 and approximate results are given for 11 ≤n ≤ 15. The normal approximation should be adequate for larger n. Exact expressions for some cumulative lower tail frequencies of D are given for general n.
