Closed Form and Dually Consistent Methods for Inference on Strict Collapsibility in 2 Times 2 × K and 2 × J × K Tables

Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series C, 1988, vol. 37, issue 3, 335-343

Abstract: We present a general method for constructing tests of strict collapsibility and estimates of non‐collapsibility for a common odds ratio in several 2 times 2 tables. These methods are dually consistent, in that they are valid under both large stratum and sparse data limiting models. They also generalize to 2 x J tables and to person‐time rate ratios. The basic method is illustrated in a study of coffee use and myocardial infarction.
