Ways of Devising Complicated Row–Column Designs for Field Crop Experiments

Paul Seeger

Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series C, 1991, vol. 40, issue 1, 127-131

Abstract: A simple, computer‐based, construction method is discussed for designs with several block structures producing up to 10–15 strata in the analysis of variance. These designs are needed for agricultural field trials where a seed drill is used to sow the crop in several plots simultaneously. Efficiency factors and also average pairwise variances, measuring the real efficiency, are computed for various designs and stratum variances. For the complicated designs considered here, the method is simpler and more flexible than a method published by Williams and John. It also produces designs with higher efficiency factors.
