A Comment on the Construction of Price Index Numbers
K. S. Banerjee
Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series C, 1956, vol. 5, issue 3, 207-210
Abstract:
In an article on index numbers that appeared in this journal Dr Ruderman was led to consider the average price, obtained from family budgets, of a group of commodities. Dr Banerjee shows in the present article that, under certain conditions, an unbiased estimate of this quantity may be computed as the average price weighted with quantities sold in the market.
