Probits: An Application to Observational Data
John K. Friend
Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series C, 1958, vol. 7, issue 1, 25-41
Abstract:
In this article Mr Friend first discusses the principle of probit analysis and the strong case that exists for its adoption in industry when a defective rate is being investigated for correlation or trend. He then describes how, in a certain investigation of this type in a steelworks, this intuitive case was borne out by a critical examination of the data and how certain obstacles, implicit in the application to observational data of a technique usually associated with experimental biology, were successfully overcome.
