The Lognormal Distribution in Quality Control
James Morrison
Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series C, 1958, vol. 7, issue 3, 160-172
Abstract:
In the application of statistical control chart analysis to thermionic valve test data, difficulties have been encountered because of the skewness of the parent distribution. Mr Morrison discusses the generation of these skew distributions in theoretical and practical terms, and describes a modified quality control scheme for these cases; ratio is used instead of range as a measure of variability, and the logarithmic transformation is used to calculate control limits.
