On the spectrum of the equation of linear viscoelasticity

Abstract: The spectrum of the infinitesimal generator of the contraction semigroup S(t) associated with an abstract version of the integrodifferential equation ∂ttu(t)−Δαu(t)+∫0∞μ(s)[u(t)−u(t−s)]ds=0arising from linear viscoelasticity is analyzed. An application to the study of the stability properties of S(t) is given.
