Measuring the efficiency of materials management based on data envelopment analysis approach: the case of Polish regions

Abstract: This paper examines the applicability of DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) to measure and evaluate the efficiency of materials management at the regional level. The research has been conducted for Polish regions as a case study. The basis for the calculation of the efficiency scores was a statistically selected set of materials used in a given region and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The results of the analysis reveal that 4 (Łódzkie, Śląskie, Warmińsko‐Mazurskie, and Zachodniopomorskie) out of 16 Polish regions are relatively efficient. The remaining regions consume too many material resources in the process of generating goods and services. Este artículo examina la aplicabilidad del Análisis Envolvente de Datos (DEA, por sus siglas en inglés) para medir y evaluar la eficiencia de la gestión de materiales a nivel regional. La investigación se ha realizado para regiones polacas utilizadas como estudio de caso. La base para el cálculo de las puntuaciones de eficiencia fue un conjunto seleccionado estadísticamente de materiales utilizados en una región determinada y el Producto Interior Bruto (PIB). Los resultados del análisis revelan que 4 regiones (Łódzkie, Śląskie, Warmińsko‐Mazurskie y Zachodniopomorskie) de las 16 regiones polacas son relativamente eficientes. Las regiones restantes consumen demasiados recursos materiales en el proceso de generación de bienes y servicios. 本稿では、包絡分析法(Data Envelopment Analysis:DEA)を用いて資材管理の効率性を地域レベルで測定し評価することの妥当性を検討する。本研究は、ポーランド地域を対象としたケーススタディとして実施した。対象地域で使用される、統計的に選択された資材一式と国内総生産(GDP)を効率性スコアの計算の基礎とした。結果から、ポーランドの16地域のうちの4地域(ウッチ、シロンスク、ヴァルミア=マズールィ、西ポモージェ)が比較的効率性が高いことが明らかになった。他の地域では、商品やサービスを生み出す過程において、資材となるリソースを使いすぎている。
