Does external linkage stimulate innovation capacity? The analysis based on “dual‐pipelines” framework

Abstract: Drawing on “buzz‐and‐pipeline” theory, we develop a framework termed “dual‐pipelines” to discover how the local innovation capacity can benefit from transnational and domestic introduced technology. We find that the intensity of transnational and domestic patent introduction both have an inverted U‐shaped relationship with local innovation capacity. Also, the relatedness and similarity of domestic technology introduced are advantageous to local innovation. However, the transnational introduced technologies are only beneficial if they perform similarly to the local knowledge base while having no significant effect if merely showing relatedness. Finally, transnational and domestic technology introductions complement each other in promoting local innovation capacity. Haciendo uso de la teoría de 'buzz‐and‐pipeline', se desarrolla un marco denominado de "doble pipeline" para descubrir cómo la capacidad de innovación local puede beneficiarse de la tecnología introducida de ámbito transnacional y nacional. Las intensidades de la introducción de patentes transnacionales y nacionales tienen una relación en forma de U invertida respecto a la capacidad de innovación local. Además, el parentesco y la similitud de la tecnología nacional introducida son ventajosos para la innovación local. Sin embargo, las tecnologías transnacionales introducidas sólo son beneficiosas si presentan similitudes con la base de conocimientos local, mientras que no tienen ningún efecto significativo si sólo muestran parentesco. Por último, las introducciones de tecnología transnacional y nacional se complementan entre sí para fomentar la capacidad de innovación local. 本稿では、「バズ・アンド・パイプライン(buzz‐and‐pipeline)」理論を利用して、「デュアル・パイプライン(dual‐pipelines)」なるフレームワークを開発し、地域のイノベーション能力が、国外の技術又は国産技術の導入からどのように利益を得ることができるかを明らかにする。国外からの特許の導入の強さと国内での特許の導入の強さは、どちらも地域のイノベーション能力と逆U字型の関係にあることがわかった。また、導入した国産技術の関連性や類似性は、地域のイノベーションに有利に働く。しかし、国外から導入された技術は、わずかに関連性を示すことがあっても有意な効果はなく、その地域のナレッジベースとの類似性を示す場合にのみ有益である。なお、国外の技術の導入と国産技術の導入は、地域のイノベーション能力を促進する上で相互に補完している。
