MODELING TARGET INDUSTRIES WITH DIFFERENTIAL WEIGHTS

Abstract:
ABSTRACT This paper expands the scope of inquiry into modeling turret industries in two ways: (1) a combination of the screening method and the simultaneous method is described that overcomes the disadvantages of each; (2) differential weights are assigned to the various location factors in determining industrial rankings because the variables that influence location decisions vary across industries. The methodology ‐ in particular the differential weights used to measure the “distances” between a region's resources and industry requirements — should be applicable generally to building target‐industry models.
