THE ALLOCATION MODEL ORION: ITS DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATIONS

Abstract: ABSTRACT The ORION model allows for a simultaneous allocation of the various activities in city or region, while contacts and conflicts between activities and the attractiveness of the terrain are taken into account. The measures of the quality of allocations are the costs of contacts, conflicts and unsuitability with regard lo the attractiveness of the terrain. A dynamic version of the model is also presented. The contacts are simulated by means of the intervening opportunities model. It is also possible to introduce planners' preferences which result from, for example, aesthetic or political reasons. Finally, an application to forecasting the development of Cracow is presented.
