REPRODUCING SOCIETY'S SIGNALS TO SPATIAL DECISION‐MAKERS USING THE APPROACH OF THE BANDWAGON EFFECT

Abstract:
ABSTRACT A mechanistic interpretation of the mathematical foundation of the Wilson spatial interaction model (SIM) leads to a requirement for its re‐specification away from a rational cost basis. The alternative mooted, called the approach of the bandwagon effect (BWE), is based on a new concept of information that defines a teleology between the spatial decision‐maker (SDM) and the spatial system. The implications include a societal ‘spatial signal’ that serves as an analogue for parameter misspecification bias; combines Markov processes to generate human emotions; and uses the quantum entanglement of the SDM with the states of moving and staying to simulate the construction of space by the psyche. The empirical performance of the BWE and the SIM is comparable.
