From Chianti to the Apennines: The fall of the left‐wing parties' predominance in Tuscany

Abstract: We carried out an analysis of political and electoral changes of left‐wing parties which occurred in the last general election in Tuscany. The social environment in Tuscany historically supported leftist values. This social tissue, deep‐rooted in territory, represented the milieu in which grew up: on the one hand a leftist political culture and, on the other, an economic culture based on co‐operative firms. These two factors reinforced each other representing the basis of left electoral prevalence. The strong decrease of left is caused by different factors such as the erosion of old social values and the unresolved effects of economic crisis. Se llevó a cabo un análisis de los cambios políticos y electorales de los partidos de izquierda observados en las últimas elecciones generales en la Toscana. El entorno social de la Toscana ha venido apoyando históricamente los valores de la izquierda. Este tejido social, arraigado profundamente en el territorio, representaba el medio en el que crecía, por un lado, una cultura política de izquierda y, por otro, una cultura económica basada en empresas cooperativas. Estos dos factores se reforzaron mutuamente, representando la base de la prevalencia electoral de la izquierda. El fuerte debilitamiento de la izquierda se debe a diferentes factores, como la erosión de los antiguos valores sociales y los efectos sin resolver de la crisis económica. 前回のトスカーナ州選挙で起こった左派政党の政治的、選挙的な変化を分析した。トスカーナの社会環境は、歴史的にみて左翼的価値観を支持するものであった。領土に深く根ざしたこの社会組織は、一方では左翼政治的文化、他方では協力企業に基づく経済文化が成長した環境であった。この2つの要因は相互に補強しあい、左派優勢の選挙地盤となった。左派が大きく後退したのは、古い社会的価値観の衰退や経済危機の影響が解消されていないことなど、様々な要因によるものである。
