Ukrainian context of sustainable development and the role of business in its achievement

Abstract: Sustainable development is one of the most important challenges facing the world community, including for developing countries, and social responsibility, in particular corporate responsibility, could make an important contribution in this regard. This paper is devoted to the study of corporate social responsibility in Ukraine, which can also serve to overcome the consequences of Russian aggression. The key research question is whether socially responsible business in Ukraine is ready to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as identifying for which goals the efforts of business structures will be most noticeable. The application of dialectical analysis demonstrates the growing role of business in achieving the SDGs. Meanwhile, the case analysis shows that a significant number of companies are working voluntarily to mitigate acute social problems. On the basis of an analysis of numerous nonfinancial reports and websites of companies, the authors identified 15 areas where businesses have been providing support to those in need since the beginning of the full‐scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation. The main conclusion is that the priority SDGs for business after the war will be: Goal 8 “Decent work and economic growth,” Goal 9 “Industry, innovation, and infrastructure”, Goal 11 “Development of cities and communities.” The activation of business social responsibility will be facilitated by the strengthening of mandatory requirements and standardization of nonfinancial reporting. El desarrollo sostenible es uno de los retos más importantes a los que se enfrenta la comunidad mundial, incluso para los países en desarrollo, y la responsabilidad social, en particular la de las empresas, podría contribuir de forma importante en este sentido. Este documento está dedicado al estudio de la responsabilidad social de las empresas en Ucrania, que puede servir también para superar las consecuencias de la agresión rusa. La pregunta clave de esta investigación es si las empresas socialmente responsables de Ucrania están preparadas para contribuir al logro de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS), así como identificar los objetivos para los qué serán más notables los esfuerzos de las estructuras empresariales. La aplicación del análisis dialéctico demuestra el creciente papel de las empresas en la consecución de los ODS. Mientras tanto, el análisis de casos muestra que un número significativo de empresas trabajan voluntariamente para mitigar problemas sociales agudos. A partir del análisis de numerosos informes no financieros y sitios web de empresas, los autores identificaron 15 ámbitos en los que las empresas han prestado apoyo a personas necesitadas desde el comienzo de la invasión a gran escala de Ucrania por parte de la Federación Rusa. La conclusión principal es que los ODS prioritarios para las empresas después de la guerra serán: Objetivo 8 “Trabajo decente y crecimiento económico”, Objetivo 9 “Industria, innovación e infraestructura”, Objetivo 11 “Ciudades y comunidades sostenibles”. La activación de la responsabilidad social de las empresas se verá facilitada por el refuerzo de los requisitos obligatorios y la estandarización de la información no financiera. 持続可能な開発は、開発途上国を含む国際社会が直面する最も重要な課題の一つであり、社会的責任、特に企業の責任は、この問題に大きく貢献する可能性がある。本稿は、ウクライナにおける企業の社会的責任の研究に貢献するものであるが、これはロシアの侵略後の状況を克服するのに役立つものでもある。主な研究課題は、ウクライナにおける社会的責任を負う企業が、持続可能な開発目標(SDGs)の達成に貢献する準備ができているか、また、企業構造の努力が、どの目標に対して最も顕著であるか特定することである。弁証法的分析から、SDGs達成におけるビジネスの役割が大きくなっていることが示される。一方、事例分析では、かなりの数の企業が、深刻な社会問題を緩和するために自発的に取り組んでいることが示される。多数の企業の非財務報告やウェブサイトを分析し、ロシア連邦によるウクライナへの本格的な侵攻の開始以来、企業が必要としている人々への支援を行っている15の地域を特定した。結論として、戦後のビジネスにおいて優先すべきSDGsは、目標8「働きがいも経済成長も(Decent Work and Economic Growth)」、目標9「産業と技術革新の基盤をつくろう(Industry, innovation, and infrastructure)」、目標11「まちづくり(Development of cities and communities)」である。必須条件の強化や非財務報告を標準化することによって企業の社会的責任の遂行が促進される。
