Abstract:
The World Wide Web and the Internet have inspired the world of bankers generated plenty of creativity; the information technology has enables a number of new business models. The Internet develops monetary markets in which clients can act at any time from any location with a Net connection. In addition to developing electronic banking, the Internet offers the potential for new forms of distance-education and learning, and for improving the quality of medical care, trans-sector approach to governance, etc. This paper presents an approach for analyzing the impact of the Internet in the banking area. Some banks have changed their existing model to adapt to this new technology. Other seems to be mystified by these changes and unable to handle them. Choosing a business model is the key for a bank, and changing one’s business model is an important aspect of strategy for the traditional banks that are threatened by a competitor on the Net.
