Abstract:
This paper is a case study of the environmental dimension of the Romanian energy sector based on secondary data and the energy indicators for sustainable development (EISD) published by the IAEA in 2005. We aimed to reflect the impact of energy production, transportation and use on: air, water, soil quality and forests. Based on the study, we provide recommendations regarding further options for policy makers to obtain sustainability including the possibility to increase the use of renewable energy sources. In terms of sustainable development indicators, the results of our study also show the applicability of the EISD system in Romania.
