Abstract: Through the thematic aspects to be considered, the thesis of this research answers an immediate need of practical silviculture that is: discerning, harmonizing, integrating and incorporating the most recent scientific bases and recommendations of the best-suited designing and monitoring solutions in the structure of a future guide to torrential watershed management activity. The main goal of this paper is to mark the coordinates of the research project. The necessity and opportunity for revision of the old guide are argued initially and then – like certain principles - the essential thematic aspects, that are to be considered in a future conception and re-elaborating process, are examined. In the second part of the paper, the frame-structure of the research thesis is presented and analysed. The accent predominantly lies on underscoring the most recent scientific bases that are to be implemented and on the crystallisation, or re-adaptation, of the practical solutions concerning designing and monitoring of the works.
