A Nuclear Measurement Technique of Water Penetration in Concrete Barriers

Marseguerra M., Padovani E., Zio E. and Patelli F. Giacobbo E.

Monte Carlo Methods and Applications, 2004, vol. 10, issue 3-4, 415-422

Abstract: In this paper we propound a non-destructive and non-invasive technique for measuring the depth of water penetration in a homogeneous slab. The proposed device consists of a 252Cf spontaneous fission source and a set of 3He detectors located on the same side of a concrete slab subject to water infiltration. The effectiveness of this technique has been investigated by Monte Carlo simulation with the MCNP4C code.
