Abstract: The discussion about an unconditional basic income has gained momentum again. In addition to theoretical analyzes of the work incentive effects, simulations and experiments have recently become available as methods for expanding the knowledge about the effects of an unconditional basic income. In this paper, the analysis of incentive effects is extended beyond those on labor supply to include time allocation. Particular attention is drawn to the importance of individuals' and households' time use capabilities, which are required for effective and efficient time allocation. In addition, the results of a current simulation study and the Finnish basic income experiment are discussed with regard to the incentive effects of basic income variants.
