Abstract:
In the course of the booming European urban tourism, a parallel development towards expressions of Muße exists in some parts of the society. Muße as a research object of geographical tourism studies gains importance, as, according to the constructivist conception of space, the social need for Muße changes and produces experience worlds in tourism. By means of a qualitative content analysis of three German-language travel guides (ADAC, Baedeker, Reise Know-How) and by using the example of Florence, Italy, the present paper investigates the linguistic construction of places of Muße and addresses the question how Muße can be tangible in a touristic-urban context. The results show that the travel guides describe indulgence as the most important form of experiencing Muße in urban tourism and mark primarily culinary places as places of Muße.
