Abstract: Based on surveys in the Tyrolean municipality of Alpbach, the extent to which the awareness of the links between tourism and climate change differs among residents, employees and guests is investigated. In addition, a total annual balance of mobility of guests, residents and employees and related carbon emissions of this Alpine destination is estimated. All groups have a general problem awareness and a certain willingness to take measures to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions when traveling – as long as these do not result in any substantial restrictions on holiday behavior. However, there are significant differences in detail. Since the overall balance of mobility underpins the high importance of the tourists’ traffic for the CO2 annual balance, measures are to be derived based on the knowledge of the existing awareness.
