Abstract: The increasingly growing travel experience implies new challenges for the tourist destinations as well as for the travellers. Current debates about the so-called Overtourism are catalysing a new tourism criticism that has to be considered under different circumstances. In this article, travellers are characterized as resilient travellers; their needs, desires and possible reactions towards current developments are discussed.The resilience approach, with its multidisciplinary roots, provides a view of tomorrow’s guest from several perspectives. There are some indications that destinations and destination management will have to take into account the current social and economic conditions to a greater extent in the future if they want to address resilient travellers successfully.It is not yet clear what motivates the future guest to undertake a touristic journey. The benefit of travel is being redefined by resilient travelers. If the destinations open up to the wishes and ideas of these target groups and if they take the opportunity to actively involve them in the design of the regional destination area within the framework of suitable participation formats, there is a good chance that resilient travellers will also be among their guests in the future.For resilient travellers, traveling as a societal phenomenon comes to the fore – a deeper reflection takes place. Against this background, resilient travelers decide on the places of identification that create a benefit of the journey and when, in what way and whether they will actually travel in the classical sense.
