Abstract:
Mobility and tourism are inseparable linked, because there is no vacation trip without a change of location. However, tourism causes around 5 % of anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions, of which around 75 % is attributable to tourist traffic. In view of this contribution of tourist traffic to climate change, it seems necessary to deal with ways to an ecological tourist mobility. An explanatory model based on the theory of planned behavior was developed to investigate the influencing factors on the choice of tourist mode of transport. In addition to the basic constructs of attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavior control, the personal norm, general environmental awareness and habitual behavior were added as supplementary model constructs. An empirical study with n = 738 identified important starting points for the design of recommendations for action using multiple linear regression.
