Abstract:
This study analyses the tourism area of Constance regarding supply and demand for accessibility. The data was collected based on a method mix consisting of interviews and surveys among people living with disabilities and responsible actors as well as site visits. The theoretical model of independence by Nosek and Fuhrer (1992) serves as theoretical foundation. The research has shown that the need for accessible services is diverse and the implementation of a universal design is an important issue due to the increasing demand. Moreover, the case of Constance allows to identify factors favouring as well as hindering barrier-free tourism, from which implications for other tourism regions can be derived.
