Abstract:
Information and communication technologies (ICTs) for tourism purposes are still hardly used by cultural institutions in rural areas. So far, however, research focusing on the reasons behind this phenomenon has been lacking especially in a resource-theoretical context. Therefore, an own system of categories was derived from already established resource-theoretical approaches. With the help of these system it was empirically analysed which resources are necessary for cultural institutions in rural areas to use ICTs for tourism. For this purpose, 30 expert interviews were conducted. The results show that not only financial and personnel capacities, but also the existing knowledge and skills of the employees as well as the inter-organisational possibilities are important prerequisites. Cultural institutions are therefore recommended, among other things, to develop a digital mindset and additional qualifications in the field of digitalisation.
