Abstract:
The high importance of recreation during holidays is generally known and well researched. Less easy to answer, however, is the question what the German resident population’s understanding of this very subjective term is, especially, what specific experiences they associate with it. For this reason the Heilbäder und Kurorte Marketing GmbH Baden-Württemberg conducted a survey in 2020 and 2021on the basis of which concrete connecting points for the planning of recovering experiences, the creation of recovery-promoting basic conditions and the conception of self-financed recovery offers were identified. Psychological approaches form the basis for this theory-led approach. At the centre of the analysis is the assumption that recreation is not an exclusively autoregulatory process, but can also be seen as a planned holiday action.
